Gmail mobile apps now receive main theme treatment

Google launches a new version of Gmail on Android and iOS apps. Gmail had already benefited from a major redesign on the Web last April and it seems that the company now brings a reflection of the same user interface to its mobile applications for Android and iOS. Google says the update will be released to all users in the coming weeks. The new design brings new features to the Gmail mobile app but does not include all the features offered during the redesigned Web. Unfortunately, the company did not include dark fashion.

The new Gmail design is based on the Material theme (previously called hardware design language). Google uses the custom font Google Without on the application. There are some notable changes and the most important of all is probably the absence of the big red bar at the top. Overall, the app now looks cleaner and a lot of space. Notably, though, there is a non-dark mode - something that can disturb smartphone users. In November, Google recommended that application developers deploy dark modes for reasons such as reducing the battery life of Android devices. It is therefore surprising that the company has decided not to use it. Notably, he introduced both the Dark Mode and Material Theme in his Android posts during his redesign last year.

The new design does not really bring a lot of new features. The overall functionality remains the same. The red composition button has been replaced by a more gradient-based icon. It's now much easier to switch accounts using your profile image at the top - before you had to use the sidebar menu. According to Google, this will make it easier for users to switch between their personal and business email accounts.

Some of the features that have made the web version of the Gmail mobile app include the previews of the attachments. These are available under the messages, making it easy to preview and download attachments with email. Users can also choose between the "Compact" and "Comfortable" views, apart from the default view on mobile apps. Google says that it will also serve as big red warnings for emails that may seem "phish-y".

According to Google, Gmail mobile applications reorganized under Android and iOS will be distributed to everyone in the coming weeks. Until now, the company has deployed its material theme design on Docs, Calendar, Reader and Web Sites.
