YouTube officially outlines video upload recommendations; Android and iOS users benefit from reordered video resolution options
YouTube has a recommended video section for all your video upload recommendations.
YouTube has introduced offline reading support in 2014 to allow users to upload their favorite videos for offline viewing. But now, the streaming video platform has extended the original functionality by adding a section dedicated to recommended downloads. The section was spotted being tested for some users earlier this month. However, Google has now confirmed its existence via an updated support page. YouTube for Android and iOS also offers separately reordered video resolution options so you can easily choose the highest video quality.
The video upload recommendation feature was spotted in some markets earlier this month. However, Google has now updated the support page for offline videos to detail the new development.
Essentially, YouTube will now list all of the recommended content on the Downloads page in the Recommended Downloads section. A pop-up window also appears at the bottom of the screen when new upload recommendations are issued. To download one of the recommended videos from the section, just tap the download icon.
"Recommended downloads will not be automatically saved to your device, nor used in your storage unless you tap the download icon to save them. If you tap the download icon when you are offline, the video will be uploaded the next time you connect to an approved Wi-Fi network for downloads, "explained the YouTube team on the support page.
You can choose to no longer receive download recommendations by switching out of Recommended Downloads option going through settings > Backgrounds and Downloads after typing on your profile picture.
In a related development, YouTube for Android and iOS has been updated with reordered video resolution options. The application previously had the lowest video quality at the top. However, it now displays the available video quality options in descending order, with the highest video quality options shown at the top.
The new modification does not result in any change in video quality. In addition, YouTube automatically chooses the best option based on your network connection.
The reordering of video resolution options is being rolled out to all Android and iOS users via a server-side update. We could detect the change on our Android and iOS devices. The change was reported for the first time by the Android Police.
